Gen Zs 'More Likely' to Discard Clothing

US secondhand #clothing wholesaler Garson & Shaw, LLC just produced an insights report with findings that caught me by great surprise.

The discoveries?
-      65% of '#GenZ' consumers throw away at least one item of wearable clothing every month
-      36% of '#GenX' consumers throw away at least one item of wearable clothing every month
-      25% of '#BabyBoomers' throw away at least one item of wearable clothing every month

I am not sure what’s more disturbing. The fact that there are so many #fashion items discarded each month or that the generation Zers discarded nearly twice as much as Xers and nearly three times as much as Boomers; given that Gen Zs are going to have to live with #planet #earth’s #climate change state of affairs longer than Xers or Boomers!

I’m hopeful that #innovation will help us part of the way to building a better, brighter #future. And I believe wholeheartedly that getting people to work together on collective solutions, challenge the status quo and create systems change is in the art of the possible.

As an #organisation, #team and #executive coach, I am called to wonder if it is ‘human nature’ at play here – the wanting something shiny and new – that stands in the way or holds us back from progress?

And, as a #coach, I’m called to wonder: if that is so, what more we can do to break the patterns?

What are your thoughts?
