Compass Group Presses on with Net Zero by 2030 Ambitions with 2022 Action

Having already received a ‘commendation of best practice’ from the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) for its #netzero targets, Compass Group's UK & Ireland Division has announced a number of initiatives to advance its #sustainability journey, “#Climate Net Zero” by 2030.

Via its procurement division Foodbuy UK & Ireland and as part of its plans to achieve its ambitions, the company has confirmed:-

- Banning of all air-freighted fruit and vegetables. The pivot will be to local and seasonal products, and Compass’ chefs have already started the process of reworking menus to accommodate the shift.
- #Transition to only free-range eggs this year, exceeding the previous target to ban caged hens’ eggs by 2025
- Phasing out of all low-grade seafood (as rated by the Marine Conservation Society).

The UK & Ireland #business contributes c. 8% of Compass Group’s overall revenues and as the home market for the company is an important centre for #innovation.

Recognised by CDP and Fortune for its #ESG strides, Compass has been making impact, ‘walking the walk’ with real action to follow its pledges.
