Don't Forget the 'S' in ESG Commitments

With deep pockets, Amazon can afford to do things which other companies cannot. But the reality of any business -- including the likes of Amazon -- is that it still has choice to invest (or not) in its employees.

And there’s no denying that today’s pledge by Amazon to pay 100% of the #education fees of its roughly 750,000 hourly employees in the United States is high impact.

Amazon has estimated that this new employee benefit – and other skills training it will offer as complement – will require a total investment of $1.2 billion by 2025.

Ghanaian diplomat and seventh Secretary-General of the United Nations Kofi Annan once said “Knowledge is power. Information is liberating. Education is the premise of progress, in every society, in every family.” 

Building a #sustainable future isn’t just about #climate change. So, too, is it about societal change.
