UK Online Fashion Sales Hit All Time High: But What's the Cost?
Average weekly #online fashion sales in the UK have just reached a record high. The level is an eye watering one, particularly if bearing in mind that of the 32 billion garments produced for the #fashion industry each year, a whopping 64% will end up in landfill.
According to new research from the Office for National Statistics (ONS), £1.7 billion ($2.2 billion) was sold in the UK, on average, each week, for the first six months of 2023. And that’s despite the cost of living crisis!
One half to two thirds of #UK consumers claim ethics and #sustainability are central to their buying modus operandi, but the reality of how they go about their purchases is very different.
Nudging customers to #reduce the amount of churn gets us somewhere. Offering garments which are conducive to #recycling, too, gets us somewhere.
Most critically is the creation of non-frictionless customer experience for “being #circular.”
