Laing O'Rourke Mandates Low Carbon Concrete for All UK New Builds

“We shape our buildings and, afterwards, our buildings shape us,” said Winston Churchill.  They are the centre of our #communities, professionally and personally. They surround us. The ‘built #environment’ plays a significant role in our lives.

According to the UN Environment Programme the #builtenvironment is also the largest single contributor to #greenhouse (#GHG) #emissions, at an estimated 30 - 40% of global levels. And businesses within this space have a responsibility to support the transition to #sustainabledevelopment.

Multinational #construction company Laing O'Rourke is doing just that, and it’s great to see the #leadership coming from this UK-based #business.

The company has just announced that it will only be using, exclusively, low #carbon concrete on all new #UK projects. The shift will take place “with immediate effect.”

This #innovation will accelerate the company’s progress towards its #netzero targets. The stance will also progress the UK’s consolidated interests in being a net zero country by 2040.
