SailGP Levers its Position in Sport to Promote the Sustainable Development Agenda
I’ve heard SailGP called the quintessential #sport for adrenaline junkies: 50-foot catamarans with a six-person crew race in 14 locations across the globe, travelling at up to 60mph in what can only be described as the most cutting edge #sailing craft imaginable.
I get a thrill even thinking about that!
I also get a thrill from the sport’s intent in #sustainabledevelopment:-
“SailGP’s ambition is to be the world's most #sustainable and #purpose-driven global sports and entertainment platform. We are racing for a better #future and believe sport has the power to change the world.”
SailGP installed Fiona Morgan as Chief Purpose Officer in 2020, and there is a strong belief across SailGP's #leadership, as she puts it, that “sport has the power to talk to fans like no one else.”
Underlining its intentions, SailGP can boast that it is the only sport that awards not only race winners but also those teams who have made the most positive #environmental impact.
The great #ocean explorer Jacques Cousteau said “The sea, once it casts its spell, holds one in its net of wonder forever.” Undoubtedly all SailGP crew members feel just that.
Cousteau also said “For most of history, man has had to fight #nature to survive; in this century he is beginning to realise that, in order to survive, he must protect it.”
In this time of The Olympics, one celebrates that sport can create increased awareness of the changes necessary to protect #planet #earth and, one hopes, the spurring on to deliver change!
