The RNLI: An Extraordinary Organisation Celebrates its 200th Year

For anyone on the South Coast of England this weekend and close by to #Hastings, you may well want to stop in to be part of a special community event, part of a year-long celebration of The Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI)’s 200th year in existence.

Founded in 1824, The RNLI is the largest of #lifeboat services operating around the coasts of the #UK, #Ireland, the #ChannelIslands, and the #IsleofMan; and the work it does “saves lives at sea,” as well as in some inland waters.

The RNLI is an extraordinary organisation! #Charity based, it’s principally funded by legacies (65%) and donations (30%).

Most incredible is that most of its lifeboat crews are unpaid #volunteers.

Here’s to their commitment to The RNLI and to the communities served. And, here’s to all who make The RNLI possible.

What more can you do, in service to your #community?
