UK Announces 'Climate Action' Fund

Amongst the many announcements coming out of nearby quarters this week at #Cop26 -- albeit with worldwide impact -- is today's release by the UK Government of its launch of a new ‘Urban #Climate Action’ fund.

Announced this morning, the multi-million programme is to help developing cities reduce #emissions and support growth, with the growth squarely under the banner of #sustainabledevelopment, ‘built to last’, designed for a sustainable #future.

The UK Government’s press release on the Urban Climate Action Programme (UCAP) notes that a total of £3 billion from the UK Government’s International Climate #Finance Commitment will be allocated to 2025.

Bogata, Jakarta, Johannesburg, Kuala Lumpur, Lima and Mexico City are cities spec’d in the initial funding. “Low-emission public #transportation systems, #renewableenergy generation, #sustainable waste management, new climate-smart buildings codes and climate risk planning” are amongst those areas critically targeted.

True, COP26 hasn’t produced a magic wand for all the difficulties we face. But, then, that wasn’t expected. Progress was. For this, one rejoices.
