Virgin Atlantic To Make History in 2023, Operating the First Net Zero Transatlantic Flight

I’m looking forward to being in London, at the airport, at the stage in 2023 when one of Virgin Atlantic’s Boeing 787 aircraft is spec’d to take flight to New York using solely #sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). Announced earlier today, it is exciting news, given it will be the very first time for a transatlantic trip of this kind and marks real progress en route to sustainable transport.

I’m thrilled for the #leadership team at Virgin (Shai Weiss and others) and, too, those with whom the carrier’s been working which includes global industrial sector companies Rolls-RoyceBoeingPratt & Whitney Canada; the academic sector’s Imperial College London and The University of Sheffield; research and consultancy houses RMI and ICF; and the #UK government.

While any one of the organisations within the consortium could have, on its own, made strides in the race to deliver practical #SAF applications, by way of joined up #collaborative efforts they have achieved accelerated results and stand a greater chance in getting us to the point of delivering on SAF’s promise in the much-needed nearer term.

Good to see played out such a fine demonstration of the power of #collaboration, with the outgrowth of ideas truly, in this case, taking flight.
