'New Eyes,' New Perspectives

“The real voyage of #discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes, but in having new eyes,” penned Marcel Proust.

I recently read a Harvard Business Review article that really landed with me about what helps — and what holds back — #leaders from being at their best.

We often assume that #performance improves when people get better answers.

In #coaching, I’ve found the opposite is frequently true.

Performance improves when people ask better questions and listen. When they are prepared to #learn, unlearn and relearn.

Many of the #executives and #leadership teams with which I work aren’t struggling because they lack knowledge. They’re held back because they’re operating from assumptions that no longer serve them.

The breakthrough often comes when they pause and ask:

• What if the opposite were true?
• What are we not seeing?
• What assumption are we treating as fact?

Those questions can unlock far more #progress than creating yet one more action plan.
